The Expedition

February 2011, IBI’s senior Management team trekked up Mount Kilimanjaro.  For many of us, this was a life-changing experience.  The benefits of the trek were not only in bonding the team more closely, but also in terms of personal learning and development.   It was an extraordinary experience and one that Lindsey Roberts very much wanted to replicate for other IBI staff members.

One of the mountaineers from the UK who accompanied us up Kilimanjaro, Steve Holmes, told us about his ambitious plan.  He was determined to scale – in one climb –  5 as yet virgin peaks in the Himalayas – in the Lunag range.   This feat has never been done before.  Lindsey Roberts decided that IBI would sponsor his extraordinary expedition, with the proviso that Steve and his climbing partner Neil Phillips,  would agree to take 8 IBI staff members with them on the trek, to the foothills of the Lunag range.

All IBI staff globally were invited to apply for the Lunag trek and we had over 50 applications.  From these 17 were  shortlisted for interview by Steve and Neil, who finally made their choice of 8 intrepid would-be climbers, to accompany them.

Their details, and histories, their goals and aspirations are elsewhere on this blog.

The IBI Lunag team are not only climbing for the endurance test that it undoubtedly will be.  They are also raising funds.  Funds to help after the devastating tsunami in Japan, and funds to support an incredible, small but global charity called Shelterbox, which provides relief to disaster zones across the world.

I do hope you will support the team in their efforts.   Follow their blog, sponsor them, encourage them and see the amazing story as it unfolds.  They will need all your encouragement and support to complete their climb.

For those of you who are interested in following the Lunag trekkers please see below the Lunag Expedition Itinerary.

Please note that for the next few days (from 10th October) it looks as though the trekkers will be out of signal range and therefore may not have access to this blog.
