Hello, I’m Andy Williams, Marketing Manager for Informa Agra, and I’m silly enough to want to trek in the Himalayas for fun.
Ever since the initial briefing, I have been dreaming about the cultures I would engage with, the strong friendships I would make and the exhilaration of being in an environment so magnificent and awe-inspiring. I was lucky enough to be selected as a team member who will achieve something that only a few people will in their lifetimes and at the same time raise money for The Red Cross Japan disaster relief and Shelterbox, who have helped rebuild the lives of the many people affected in Japan. Not too much pressure then...
But in a perverse way I enjoy being outside of my comfort zone, I’m not an extrovert or the loudest person in the room but I enjoy challenging myself in new and often stupid situations - growing the world's worst moustache for charity and entering into the duathalon world championships qualifiers quite unwittingly and only finding out in the warm up.
As to what I would gain, this opportunity is only going to come along once and I feel really privileged to be part of this amazing adventure and to raise as much money as possible. It will be an opportunity for me to develop and find out who the real me is. To embrace and learn from whatever is thrown at me, however difficult the situation.
What will I bring to the trip? I’m always optimistic, try to be practical, and see the funny side to life which should help being thousands of miles from home. Let’s hope my team mates think the same after 18 days.

What do I want to achieve?
- Be positive and enjoy myself even when it gets tough
- Reach base camp with my team mates
- Raise £3000 for the two charities
- Stay injury free during training and the trek
- Immerse myself in the Nepalese culture
- Slow down and reflect about the trip
What can I do to achieve my goals
- Stay injury free by conditioning my legs and core
- Try not to over train
- Break down the fundraising into small bite-size chunks
- Read up on the culture and history of the region and Nepal
What will I do if I can't achieve your goals
- Support the team in reaching the base camp
- Learn about the culture and history whilst in Nepal
- Think of new ideas for fundraising and implement them
Fitness Goals
Current level 9
- Maintain my current fitness and try not to push too much to avoid injury (9)
- Carry out a strength and conditioning program to remain injury free (7)
- Add walking using my trekking boots to my current program (8)
- Add more swimming sessions to my current program (9)

My wife, Marie, came home earlier today and the first thing she said was “what’s that smell!” Not the response I thought i would get after 4 weeks apart. But she was right. My kit does stink, my facial hair is unruly and I looked weathered. But I’ve got a warm glow of satisfaction and [...]

Here is a picture of Daisy who is the chief yak. Everyone jokes that she has a soft spot for me because she is always looking at me.

So we made it! The days from the last tea house at Arye to Basecamp was tough mentally. However the mountains were so stunning they took my breathe away. I often stood in awe of the towering giants that lined our trek. The pictures will not do it justice. Such a magical place. But the [...]

Had a top sleep last despite having misplaced my sleeping bag. Luckily Steve had picked it up. We have just had a hearty breakfast and are planning to go to the Monkey temple this afternoon. Everyone is a lot more relaxed now after a day of nervousness and apprehension. The group is bonding really well [...]

I have recently come back from a trip to Northern Italy. I went not only to relax and indulge in some lovely food and wine but also to get some walking and swimming training in. Part of my trip took me to a little fishing village on the Cinque Terre which has some amazing walks [...]

Having a few beers in the pub the other night with some school mates and the topic of conversation got on to the trek. (I may have angled it that way in a sly way of drumming up sponsorship) And a few of us noticed that lots of people from our year at school, and a couple [...]
