(Armonk, NY): I had been anxiously awaiting my next fundraiser, this past Saturday, October 29th.  This date was carefully chosen to get the maximum attendance, but due to weather this unfortunately could not be.  It is a bit ironic.  My fundraiser was to help the Red Cross: US Disaster Relief and here my guests and I were in the middle of yet another storm.  This time it wasn’t flooding rains or a hurricane, it was a Nor’easter.  A record breaking storm that brought anywhere between 6-12 inches of snow to the northeast.  In New York, the snow started around noon and never stopped.

Several close family members and friends braved the storm to support the Red Cross and come to the event.  As people came in we heard terrible stories of accidents, cars going off the road, trees coming down on power lines, and even one of my guests losing control of his car and damaging the vehicle.  It was a rough start; no one could believe what was developing outside.

Left to Right: Doug, Christina & John

Despite the weather, everyone had a wonderful time at the wine tasting.  We were entertained by my father-in-law, John DeRuzza and educated by our wine expert Doug Croll.  Doug chose some amazing wines from Italy and California for the event.  My personal favorites were Monty guidi Del Carmine 2009 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Primitivo di Manduria Villa Mottura 2008, Puglia, Italy.  My special thanks to Holly, from the Red Cross for coming to the event.  Thank you for sharing your experiences with the Red Cross and for all the tips on how to prepare for an emergency.  After this weekend, you can bet all of us have an emergency kit.  We appreciate all the Red Cross does for us and we are happy to support this great organization.

My many thanks to Enrico Farello (www.farellowines.com), Monsieur Touton and Mt. Kisco Wines & Spirits for donating all of the wines for the event.   My thanks to the owners of Gavi Restaurant (www.gavirestaurant.com) for hosting the event for us.  Thank you Cabot Creamery for donating cheeses from your private stock.  Thank you Wine Enthusiast (http://www.wineenthusiast.com/ )for donating the raffle prizes.  Thank you Doug Croll (www.toleranttaster.com) for all your help planning the event and making the afternoon the fun, unique experience it was!

NY and the rest of New England are still recovering from the snow storm. Hopefully, everyone has power again.

The wine tasting event raised $1,992.63 for US Disaster Relief. My many thanks to everyone who helped with the event and those you generously donated.

    Sincerely,
    Christina
